At Coffee Presto, sustainability is built into everything we do. We are committed to ethical sourcing and environmentally responsible practices that minimise our impact and support the long-term future of the coffee industry.
From bean to cup - including our roasting process and packaging choices - every decision is made with sustainability in mind. This commitment has seen Coffee Presto recognised as North Queensland’s most sustainable coffee roaster.
We're proud to be recognised as a Townsville Eco Tourism Destination!
"We strive to be ecologically friendly in absolutely everything that we do... Every day, we're thinking about the ecological footprint we're leaving behind. We can actually sustain all those industrial practices, maintain a great workforce, and still look after the environment."
- Luke Guazzo, Managing Director
ESG-credentialled coffee roaster
When it comes to sustainability, we don't just talk the talk - we walk the walk. We are North Queensland's most sustainable coffee roaster, and can provide reporting to meet your organisation's ESG requirements:
- Environmental (our impact on the planet)
- Social (our contribution to society)
- Governance (our conduct & accountability)
We are sipping our way to Net Zero... our goal is to be at Net Zero emissions by end of 2030. Our early carbon footprint calculations tell us we're almost there!

sustainability initiative #1
plastic-free packaging
We're a recognised "Plastic-Free Townsville Champion", and our commitment to plastic-free packaging extends to all areas of the business:
- We provide reusable food grade drums to our local coffee wholesale customers
- We encourage our home customers to bring in air-scape containers for bean refills
- We only use home-compostable coffee cups
- We package our Dolce Syrups and Cold Brew in Australian-made recycled glass
- We sell tea bags made from 100% biodegradable materials
- Our fridge is only stocked with recyclable glass and aluminium
sustainability initiative #2
bean sourcing
Coffee Presto has an ongoing commitment to buying from suppliers that have a current Climate Action Plan, covering:
- Protecting the Environment - eliminating or reducing environmental risks to an acceptable level, and supporting new projects / products which are environmentally sustainable.
- Sustainability - a current Climate Action Plan with a decarbonisation goal, committing to deforestation-free supply chains and preservation of natural heritage.
- Deforestation - sourcing of products from suppliers that operate practices that avoids deforestation, and actively work to promote reforestation.
- Human Rights - in addition to the Climate Action Plan, we are aligned with suppliers that support and respect human rights for local communities.
sustainability initiative #3
sustainable roasting
Roasting coffee beans is an energy-intensive process. We've taken proactive steps to reduce over 80% of our carbon emissions from our roasting process. We do this by using the world-leading VortX KleanAir Roaster Exhaust System. This exhaust system uses water-cooled technology, rather than gas-powered after burners. The water is then upcycled to fertilise our plants.
sustainability initiative #4
on-site commitments
Step into our Roastery, and you'll notice some of our sustainability commitments straight away - others are not as obvious!
- 30kW solar PV, exporting surplus power to the grid (generating 153% of our required energy supply).
- Attractive green wall and plants throughout our premises, using Humisoil with recycled coffee grinds.
- EV recharging station available free-of-charge for our customers.
- Lithium-powered walkie stacker – charged by solar PV to boost efficiency when transporting goods.
- Heat pump hot water system – energy-efficient and solar-powered, used for sterilising bottles for our Dolce Syrups.
- LED lighting – brighter, cooler and longer-lasting across our premises.
sustainability initiative #5
circular economy
Wherever possible, we're committed to a regenerative economy (that is, an economic system based on the reuse of materials or products, especially those sourced locally).
As one example, we're proud to collaborate with Townsville-based Atlas Soils:
- we provide recycled coffee grinds for the production of Humisoil and other soil enhancers,
- working towards sustainble coffee-grind collection across Townsville,
- we can provide eco-sustainability scorecards to wholesale customers.
